V&A South Kensington, London, United Kingdom
Albert Yonathan Setyawan's 'Metamorphic Modulation” is presented as part of 'V&A x LDF: Awakenings' at V&A South Kensington.
Setyawan's practice in contemporary ceramic art explores repeating forms, pattern-making, and the material qualities of clay. Centred on two enigmatic forms - one evoking a leaf and the other a flower - 'Metamorphic Modulation' comprises over 700 individual pieces, hand-modelled in clay, slip-cast in red terracotta, and left unglazed. The installation shifts in appearance from different vantage points, playing with light and shadow.
First presented in Hong Kong, the installation has been adapted for the V&A, curated by Louis Copplestone in collaboration with Carrie Chan and produced by Katya Spiers.
Artwork commissioned in partnership with The Peninsula Hotels' 'Art in Resonance' programme.
