Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
ara contemporary is pleased to announce its debut participation in S.E.A. Focus 2026, presenting works by Enka Komariah and Mar Kristoff. Taking place from 23 - 25 January 2026 at Sands Expo & Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Komariah's practice engages archival documents, state records, and historical absences to examine how national identity is shaped through omission as much as declaration. His ongoing project, 'Tugu Indonesia', begins from the absence of a monument acknowledging the history of the name “Indonesia,” unfolding as a sustained inquiry into erasure, authorship, and the politics of remembrance. Kristoff's practice engages photographic archives to examine acts of dissection that begin with the image itself and unfold into memory, authorship, and representations of reality. Working with family photographs and found images, he treats these materials as vessels of memory-subject to fracture, reinterpretation, and re-authorship.Within the 'Probe' series, images sourced from strangers' family albums are examined, cut, and rearranged, shifting the photograph between document and object. Through this process, Kristoff raises questions around the instability of memory and the porous boundary between the private and the public once images enter an archive.
At S.E.A. Focus, ara presents a considered entry point into this body of work, positioning the archive not as a stable record, but as a contested site where history remains unresolved.
